Hand painted 'Jazz Age' Art Deco box by Kurt Wendler in the Indra pattern for Rosenthal, circa 1930. Kurt Wendler was a visionary painter leading up to the era of Art Deco. A contemporary of Martha Katzer, Marguerete Heymann, Augusta Kaiser, and Eva Zeisel, he was imprisoned for hiding a Jewish painter during WWII.
